TORONTO – Rogers Media Inc. has asked the CRTC to amend two conditions of license for The Score to enable it to slightly increase (from 10% to 15% of its schedule) the amount of analysis, interpretation and documentary programming it can provide in order to compete with online services offered by TSN, CBS Sports and ESPN. TORONTO and CALGARY – Rogers Communications said late Monday afternoon it plans to pay Shaw Communications $700 million to acquire Hamilton Ontario-based Mountain Cablevision and to secure Shaw’s AWS spectrum holdings in 2014.
The deal will also see Shaw purchase Rogers' one-third interest in TVtropolis for $59 million, giving it 100% of the specialty channel, and Shaw will enter into negotiations with Rogers for the provision of certain services in Western Canada. The press release did not specify what those services will be although Shaw CEO Brad Shaw hinted where some co-operation is being worked on.

TORONTO – Canadians may be among the world’s highest adopters of technology, but a recent survey reveals they often think they know more than they actually do.
According to the survey, 60% of Canadians gave themselves a 'B' grade or higher for tech savviness. When put to the test, only 4% achieved a 'B' grade. The survey, conducted for Rogers Communications, finds that almost half couldn't answer questions about roaming, and two out of three couldn't correctly answer questions about data usage or online security. WATERLOO- Sandvine has reported revenues of $27.5 million U.S. in its fourth quarter, up 31% from the same period a year earlier. The company’s shares jumped 9.6% on Thursday closing at $1.70.
Sandvine attributes its success in part to the development of solutions that enable ISPs to create new methods of charging for increased bandwidth usage.
During the quarter the company recorded a one-time, $3.8 million reduction in operating expenses for Ontario government funding related to its ongoing project under the Next Generation of Jobs Fund.
