Cogeco rebrands community TV stations

MONTREAL – While some cable companies are eliminating community TV stations, Cogeco instead is investing in theirs and has renamed its community television stations in Ontario and Quebec to better reflect its ties to the local communities that it serves. Sportsnet to ice 56 Leafs games

TORONTO – With the NHL pre-season kicking off in days, Sportsnet said Friday that it will serve up 56 Toronto Maple Leafs games in the 2017-18 NHL season. Sportsnet will air 56 games on television (40 national games and 16 regional matchups) and on Sportsnet Now, 41 games on radio on Sportsnet 590 The Fan, and all 82 games online at Rogers NHL Live (formerly Rogers NHL GameCentre LIVE). Mobile Klinik adds CFO; secures $6.85M in funding ahead of expansion

TORONTO – Smartphone and tablet repair company Mobile Klinik has secured $6.85 million in Series B funding to fuel its growth strategy. Rogers improves wireless service for Abbotsford shoppers

ABBOTSFORD, BC – Rogers and Fido customers shopping at Abbotsford’s Highstreet Shopping Centre are now enjoying improved wireless service. Union to take action against Rogers over new OMNI newscasts

TORONTO – The union which represents media workers at Rogers' OMNI TV said Wednesday it is taking legal action in response to the company’s decision to have Fairchild TV produce its newscasts in Mandarin and Cantonese. "This $20-billion broadcaster is in violation of its CRTC licence to produce its own news coverage," said Unifor National president Jerry Dias, in a press release. Mobile Klinik expands to Alberta

TORONTO – Canadian mobile repair service Mobile Klinik is expanding in to Western Canada after buying the mobilFIX and Dr. Mobile smartphone repair businesses.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Established in 2013, mobilFIX and Dr. Mobile operate two locations each in West Edmonton Mall, while mobilFIX also operates another three locations in the Edmonton area. Rogers’ veteran traffic reporter Russ Holden hangs up his headphones

TORONTO – Rogers’ second longest-serving employee ever is calling it a career after 50 years of reporting on Toronto’s traffic. Russ Holden (pictured) joined the company in 1967 in the operations department at radio station 98.1 CHFI, followed by years in commercial and program production.
