GATINEAU – All large internet service providers will have to abide by the CRTC’s new Internet Code of conduct as of January 31, 2020.
The new code, which will apply to Bell, Cogeco, Eastlink, Northwestel, Rogers, Shaw, Sasktel, Telus, Vidéotron, and Xplornet has been created to try to ensure consumers receive easier-to-understand contracts, documentation and policies surrounding service calls, outages, security deposits and disconnections, reads the release. GATINEAU – Last summer Cloudwifi, a Kitchener-based ISP that operates mostly in the apartment and condo space, filed an application with the CRTC requesting an order stating Bell Canada can’t interfere with a customer’s use of the inside wire.
The CRTC agreed with the independent ISP but Bell appealed saying because Cloudwifi was not a local exchange carrier (LEC) or a BDU, it had no legal, regulatory, or other rights of use or access to the facilities at issue. On July 17, 2019, the Commission asked interested parties for applications on the review of CRTC decision…

Three-year handset plans popular; new TV option coming, too
TORONTO – Rogers Communications CEO Joe Natale admitted Tuesday morning he was happily surprised by the early numbers coming in from its new Rogers Infinite wireless plans.
On June 12th, readers will recall, Rogers junked overage fees and many of its old wireless plans in favour of three simpler unlimited data plans, starting at $75/month. Company executives crossed their fingers hoping the price point and “unlimited” data would make sense to people (even though the unlimited data is slowed after 10GB/month on the lowest cost plan) and that…

That number is not chained to the quarter as it is the count as of Monday…

OTTAWA – Encouraging people to enter a contest which had already been drawn is a no-no, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council said today.
The CBSC said in a press release today Rogers Media’s Kiss FM Ottawa (CISS-FM) violated the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Code of Ethics for broadcasting misleading information about eligibility for the first of two draws to win a trip to Jamaica.
