QUEBEC CITY – Quebecor’s new arena in Quebec City will be known as the Videotron Centre, the company said Tuesday.
The new 18,000-seat facility, reportedly worth $400 million, is scheduled to open its doors on September 15, 2015. As manager of the Videotron Centre for the next 25 years, Quebecor will pay the City of Quebec $33 million upon completion, though that amount will jump to $63.5 million should Quebecor receive an NHL franchise, reads the company announcement.

OTTAWA – Saying he can’t see how Bell Mobility will suffer irreparable harm due to CRTC Broadcasting and Telecom Decision 2015-26 (which ordered Bell and Quebecor’s Vidéotron to cease providing mobile video applications that are exempt from counting toward the cap on their wireless data plans) Federal Court of Appeal judge Denis Pelletier dismissed Bell’s request for an immediate stay of the Commission decision.

MONTREAL – Quebecor ended 2014 with a net loss attributable to shareholders of $30.1 million as it continues to refocus on what it describes as its main growth businesses.
The Montreal-based communications and media giant attributed the loss in large part to a $242.8 million favourable non-cash impact of fluctuations in the value of goodwill, intangible assets and derivative financial instruments. But the loss is an improvement over its $288.6 million net loss recorded at the end of 2013.

MONTREAL – Bell Canada’s ExpressVu must pay $137 million to Videotron and TVA for failing to prevent the piracy of its satellite signals in Quebec, the Quebec Court of Appeal has ruled.
The unanimous ruling upheld a lower court decision issued in July 2012 which awarded $600,000 in damages to the two Quebecor subsidiaries. The actions stem from allegations made by Quebecor that Bell failed to prevent the piracy of its Bell ExpressVu satellite television service between 1999 and 2005.

OTTAWA – Two big story lines emerged from Friday's Industry Canada’s AWS-3 spectrum auction results: Rogers Communications failed to secure any additional spectrum, while Telus forked over more than $1.5 billion for 15 licences with a combined population coverage of 30 million Canadians.

MONTREAL – TVA Group ended 2014 in a sea of red ink, capped by a $4.4 million net loss attributable to shareholders in its fourth quarter.
The Quebecor Media subsidiary said that consolidated adjusted operating income for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2014, fell 51.4% to $29.4 million from $60.6 million in the previous year. Consolidated operating revenues of $439.3 million were 1.2% lower than $444.8 million in 2013, while the net loss attributable to shareholders of $41.1 million was a far cry from the prior year’s $15.7 million net income attributable to shareholders.
