MONTREAL – Quebecor is readying the sophomore version of Éléphant ClassiQ, a film festival devoted to restored and digitized movies.
Scheduled for November 19 – 22, 2015 at three theatres in Montreal, the event will feature restored classic French films from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa and Quebec that will be shown with English subtitles. This year’s theme will be 'les films qui ont fait le cinema' (movies that have marked the history of cinema), and will also include master classes and opportunities to meet distinguished film people.
"Quebecor is proud to help bring our cinema to a wider audience," said Quebecor president and CEO Pierre Dion, in the news release. "For us, Elephant ClassiQ is another way to make restored, digitized films better known and more accessible – not only movies from Quebec's cinematic heritage but classic films from the world over."
Launched by Quebecor in 2008, Elephant: The memory of Quebec cinema is a large-scale project that aims to restore, digitize in HD and make available all Québec feature films ever made. To date, nearly 225 films have been restored and digitized and may be accessed via video on demand on Videotron's illico platform, including channel 900, illico mobile and illico.tv. The original version of the films with subtitles are also being added to iTunes in Canada, the U.S., France and other European and African countries where French or English is one of the official languages.
