OTTAWA — The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) today announced registration is now open for Prime Time 2022.
The annual media production conference, taking place from Feb. 3-11, 2022, will be held as a hybrid event, “offering an expanded suite of online programming and virtual meetings, as well as pop-up networking events across Canada,” says a press release.

VANCOUVER – In his capacity as chair of the Rogers Control Trust, Edward Rogers filed documents in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on Tuesday in a move towards establishing the validity of his version of the board of Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI).

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has officially announced his new(ish) Cabinet.
In a ceremony at Rideau Hall Tuesday, Trudeau appointed Pablo Rodriguez as Minister of Canadian Heritage. Rodriguez was government house leader until dissolution and had been Heritage Minister between 2018 and 2019. His predecessor, Stephen Guilbeault, is now the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
Rodriguez is the third (or fourth if you count his previous passage) Heritage Minister to come from Montréal.

TORONTO – Telus Corp. has lost one step in its Federal Court case to stop Quebecor’s Videotron from getting its hands on 3.5 GHz spectrum licenses in western Canada.
A Federal Court judge on Friday denied Telus’ request to order Innovation Canada to temporarily halt the issuance of the licenses during the time the court deliberates on the arguments in the case.

Bell says licensees should pay less if restrictions are permanent

Canada’s big telecoms said they are surprised by an Innovation Canada decision to restrict the use of the 3.5 GHz spectrum in areas where there are interference possibilities, principally around 26 major airports, which they say will affect the ability of Canadians’ living in the surrounding areas to get 5G services.
ISED proposed the restrictions in an August consultation document.
