The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced last week approximately $3.9 million will be invested in 17 projects through its Digital Linear Series Program.
The program supports digital linear series in their second or subsequent season, created initially for online platforms and in CMF-funded genres.
Of the 17 projects receiving funding, 12 are drama series, four are children and youth series, and one is a documentary.

Dany Meloul has officially been named CBC/Radio-Canada’s new executive vice president of French Services, overseeing all of the public broadcaster’s French-language programming services, including ICI Radio-Canada Télé, ICI ARTV, ICI Explora, ICI RDI, ICI Première, ICI Musique, ICI TOU.TV, Radio-Canada.ca, and other digital and mobile offerings.
Meloul has been serving in the position in an acting capacity since Oct. 2023 when Michel Bissonnette abruptly departed the public broadcaster. He had held the EVP role since 2017.

Corus Entertainment announced Monday its current vice president of audio, Ronnie Stanton, will be leaving Corus for an opportunity outside of Canada.
Stanton took over the role in August from a retiring Brad Phillips. Stanton’s promotion was announced at the same time Corus revealed an organizational restructuring of its audio division.

Platforms have 180 days to notify CRTC if they are subject to law

Canadian Heritage on Friday provided its final rules for the Online News Act ahead of its enforcement next week, including capping compensation for broadcasters and CBC/Radio-Canada on single agreements.
The legislation, which comes into force on December 19, will require web giants to compensate publishers for hosting news content on their platforms. Deals will be done on the basis of single group agreements or multiple agreements.
