Air Canada to offer in-flight Wi-Fi aboard international flights

MONTREAL and CHICAGO – Air Canada will soon offer satellite connectivity on international flights, allowing customers to email, surf the internet and stream entertainment at broadband speeds. Air Canada is presently the only Canadian carrier offering customers in-flight Wi-Fi across its entire fleet of narrow-body aircraft in North America.  Under the new agreement, Gogo's 2Ku connectivity technology will be installed on Air Canada's wide-body international aircraft, starting with the Boeing 777 this fall. Canada, NZ matching fund unveils three new co-pros

TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and NZ On Air (New Zealand) will contribute a financing incentive of $1 million (CAD) for three digital media co-production projects under the Canada-New Zealand Digital Media Fund. Now in its second year, this partnership between the CMF and NZ On Air funds eligible digital media co-pros by producers from the two countries.  By funding projects that use new technologies to tell culturally-relevant stories, the program is designed to encourage creative producers from each country to collaborate on digital media productions. Canada must develop more skilled ICT talent, says new ICTC digital strategy

OTTAWA – Growing and nurturing Canada’s digital talent base is essential for the country’s future growth and positioning in the global economy, says the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). The organization’s first-ever national digital talent strategy, Digital Talent: Road to 2020 and Beyond, projects that 182,000 skilled ICT workers will be needed in Canada by 2019, with another 36,000 by 2020.  ICTC says that Canada’s digital economy currently employs approximately 1.15 million workers and contributes $74 billion annually to GDP across all sectors. Super Bowl simsub battle between Bell and CRTC continues over distribution order

NFB commits 50% of its production budget to films by women

VANCOUVER – The National Film Board of Canada marked International Women’s Day on Tuesday by pledging that at least half of its productions will be directed by women, and half of all production spending will be allocated to films directed by women over the next three years.
