Telus to trial edge computing with MobiledgeX

VANCOUVER – Telus will trial mobile edge computing after teaming up with San Francisco-based MobiledgeX Inc. Broadcasters rally to bring Gord Kidder home

THE CANADIAN BROADCAST industry is pulling together in support of long-time radio salesperson Gord Kidder. According to a GoFundMe Page, Kidder recently travelled to Europe to take part in ceremonies to honour his uncle who was a POW in WWII and the 75th anniversary of The Great Escape.  He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was rushed to a hospital in Prague (Czech Republic) for emergency surgery where he remains in a coma in the intensive care unit.  Unfortunately, Kidder does not have out-of-country or private health care insurance coverage and expenses continue to accrue.  Supporters are hoping to transport him back to Canada and into a facility… Continue Reading

Next Alert Ready test set for Wednesday, but not in Ontario or Quebec

OTTAWA-GATINEAU – The next test of Canada’s National Public Alerting System has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, though Ontario and Quebec will not take part due to issues with ongoing flooding in parts of those provinces. Conducted by provincial emergency management organizations, test alerts should appear on every updated and compatible mobile device connected to a LTE wireless network in participating provinces and territories and will be simultaneously distributed on radio and television.  The messages will be identified as test alerts and will not require Canadians to take action. Rogers Media buys podcaster Pacific Content

VANCOUVER – Rogers Media announced Wednesday it has acquired Pacific Content, a branded-content podcast company that produces original podcasts for clients across North America. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. With the launch of the company’s Frequency Podcast Network last year (which leverages a lot of its radio talent), Rogers Media continues to see growth its audio business. Rogers debt securities offer tops $2.7B

TORONTO – Rogers Communications recent issuance of debt securities to help cover the costs of its spectrum purchases generated more than it had planned. The company said Wednesday that its previously announced offering of US$1.25 billion aggregate principal amount of 4.35% senior notes due 2049 in the United States, and CDN$1.0 billion aggregate principal amount of 3.25% senior notes due 2029 in Canada generated aggregate net proceeds of CDN$2.7 billion. MONTREAL – In a ruling handed down earlier this month, The Court of Quebec ruled the federal Telecommunications Act not only has precedence over the provincial Consumer Protection Act but also that the sections of the provincial law that deal with contractual issues in telecommunications are null and void.
