TORONTO – The Movie Network launched two additional high-definition channels on Wednesday, MExcess HD and MFun! HD.
Available free of charge to TMN subscribers, the new channels will mirror the programming available on MExcess and MFun!’s respective standard-definition channels.

TORONTO – Media companies looking to monetize their content with online subscription models would be advised to look for additional sources of revenue.
According to results from the Q3 edition of Digital Life Canada, Solution Research Group’s quarterly trend survey.
The research benchmarked consumers’ willingness to pay for various types of content online. Only 14% said they would pay for newspapers online; TV shows did better at 22%, and books seemed worthy of payment to 29%. At the top of the list was movies which had the most potential, with 37% indicating a willingness to pay.

HALIFAX – EastLink is offering its digital cable customers free previews of Setanta Sports and TSN HD, just in time for the holidays.
Setanta Sports, which bills itself as the home of International Sport, will be available from November 27 to November 29, while TSN HD can be seen from November 26 to January 6, 2010.

TORONTO – The high definition television subscribers of Bell TV say they love their nature and sports channels, according to a new Angus Reid survey done for independent broadcaster High Fidelity HDTV.
Leading the way is Oasis HD, a nature and natural history channel owned and run by Toronto-based High Fidelity HDTV Inc. According to the survey, Oasis HD is the high definition television channel most-often talked about or recommended to others.
Among the 505 Bell TV subscribers surveyed – who had at least one HiFi channel – Oasis HD ranked ahead of Bell’s other HD offerings (see chart).

HALIFAX – Over 70 channels are being viewed free of charge by EastLink digital cable customers this month, the company announced in Friday.
"We’re offering a month-long free-view as a way of saying thank you to our customers," said Deborah Shaffner, president and COO, in a press release.
"In addition to introducing our customers to new channels, free previews allow us to showcase the many great channels and specialty programming available through EastLink Digital TV."

Available on Rogers, Bell TV, EastLink, Sasktel and Source Cable, the company hired ad agency Endeavour to handle the campaign and the media buy, which features radio, television, and print elements.

TORONTO – While data will account for 19% of wireless service revenue – and all of 2009 service revenue growth in Canada – a 2% decline in Canadian wireless service ARPU is predicted by Convergence Consulting Group.

TORONTO – Rogers Communications and Bragg Communications are in discussions on potential system swaps, Cartt.ca has learned.
A source with direct knowledge of the talks said late Wednesday on condition of anonymity that the two companies are negotiating a deal in which the primary assets exchanged would be Bragg’s Delta Cable and Coast Cable systems in southern B.C. (and potentially some of EastLink’s other operations in Western Canada, too) in exchange for Rogers’ systems in St. John’s, Corner Brook and Gander, Nfld.

HALIFAX – Former EastLink co-CEO Dan McKeen has left the company, Cartt.ca has learned.
In an e-mail to Cartt.ca, McKeen confirmed his last day at Canada’s fifth-largest cable company in the country was Tuesday, October 27.
He plans to take a few months off before looking at other opportunities. “I have fully enjoyed my time at EastLink. I describe it as the opportunity of a lifetime,” he wrote.
