BRUCE COUNTY, ONT. — BlackburnNews.com reported this morning that a proposed plan to sell Bruce Telecom to Halifax-based Eastlink has been revived, after Kincardine, Ont.’s town council voted 5-4 in favour of directing its mayor to reopen talks with Eastlink to see if it’s still interested in buying publicly-owned Bruce Telecom.
Eastlink pulled out of the $26-million deal in August 2014, after the Competition Bureau expressed its concerns about the proposed sale.
Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie said if Eastlink is interested in revisiting the deal, the parties involved will need to work through the issues raised previously by the…

Among those who have confirmed to Cartt.ca that they have submitted applications to participate in the two aforementioned auctions are Rogers Communications and Telus Corp.
SaskTel says it applied for the AWS-3, but noted it is ineligible for the 2500 MHz sale. Bell Canada and Eastlink wouldn’t confirm or deny that they filed applications. Vidéotron and MTS hadn’t replied to Cartt.ca by deadline.
Wind Mobile, which recently completed a restructuring, had previously announced its…

WE HATE THE WORD predictions. Research companies are good at that, but nobody can really predict the future. However, we do like making educated guesses – and now that we’re a month into 2015, we feel we can make some of those with better data than what we could have done before Christmas, when “prediction” articles are so fashionable.
So, here are a few of our prognostications…
Cord cutting will grow. Subscription TV providers used last year’s Deloitte TMT predictions and some middling overall results to show that cord-cutting is not happening – at least not at…

BACK IN 2007-08 THERE were no shortage of people in the Canadian TV industry who’d whisper, “who’s the crazy guy buying up all the music brands?”
The prevailing wisdom then said music was a shrinking, sinking business, utterly upended by the digital revolution and one to be fled by serious businesspeople, not embraced. It was certainly not something upon which to build a brand new global enterprise. Oh, there were plenty of naysayers when Eric Boyko (pictured in his Montreal office), a speed talking ball of frenetic, entrepreneurial energy, entered the Canadian TV scene. (Pour la version française, s'il vous…

OTTAWA – The CRTC has issued determinations to resolve a billing dispute between Bell Aliant and Eastlink over payments for service poles.
The Commission clarified that a “service pole” is to include all poles on which the only attachment is a wire that provides service to a particular customer. It also found that an error rate should not be applied to the pole census results in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and that Eastlink should be required to pay census fee charges but not late payment charges where there is a valid dispute.
The Commission further determined that, where…
