MONTREAL, QUEBEC and VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – Cogeco Cable has completed the purchase of all of the issued and outstanding common shares of IT hosting provider Peer 1 for $3.85 per share in a transaction valued at $526-million. TORONTO – Cogeco, despite losing 2,076 net Canadian basic cable subscribers, and adding only 6,311 telephony subscribers, well below the 16,000 forecast in its first quarter, remains a “buy” recommendation. MONTREAL – Cogeco reports that revenue increased by 5.9% to $366.6 million in its first quarter of fiscal 2013, ended November 30, 2012. Operating income, before depreciation and amortization, increased by 11.6% to $156.6 million, compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2012. But profit fell to $47.1 million compared to $47.9 million for the same period of the previous fiscal year.

OTTAWA – In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court of Canada said Thursday that the CRTC does not have the jurisdiction to allow conventional over-the-air broadcasters pursue a wholesale fee from BDUs for the carriage of their signals.
