Cogeco sells off Metromedia to Bell Media

MONTREAL – Cogeco’s radio subsidiary Cogeco Diffusion Inc. has sold off Métromédia CMR Plus Inc. (Cogeco Métromédia) almost four years to the date that it first acquired the transit advertising company. The company said Tuesday that Cogeco Métromédia has been sold to Bell Media Inc., the owner of Astral Out of Home.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cogeco Métromédia is an out-of-home advertising company specializing in the public transit sector. SCTE Ontario unveils 2015 Board of Directors

BRAMPTON – Cogeco Cable’s Ron Huinink has been elected president of SCTE Ontario Chapter board for 2015. He joins Rogers Cable’s John Triassi and Andrew Laframboise and Telonix’s Scott McPhail who were also elected to the SCTE Ontario Board for a period of two years (2016 and 2017).  They join current board members Mario Massi, Ivan Novello, Chris Skarica and Joe Caruso. The organization said that nine candidates put their names forward and that voter turnout was strong. 2016, the year of the cloud, will see Telus link them together

TORONTO – Telus will join the increasing number of data centre providers in Canada offering hybrid cloud services that connect applications in corporate-owned or hosted private clouds or infrastructure, to public clouds. Cogeco Cable asks shareholders to vote on its new name

MONTREAL – Cogeco Cable Inc. needs shareholder approval to officially change its name to Cogeco Communications Inc., a moniker that it says better expresses its footprint, and clearly and strongly evokes its profile and unique areas of expertise. CMPA names Douglas as business affairs, digital initiatives director

TORONTO – The Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) has named Marcia Douglas as director, business affairs and digital initiatives. Internet complaints on the rise as wireless gripes fall: CCTS report

OTTAWA – While Canadians complained less about their wireless services last year, the number of Internet-related grievances jumped by 52%, the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS) said Wednesday in its annual report. The report, Making The Tough Calls, showed that the CCTS received 9,988 customer complaints in 2014-15, down 12% from 11,340 in 2013-14, and maintained an 87% resolution rate.  Wireless services complaints once again topped the list with 52.9% of all complaints, followed by 26.1% for Internet, 18.2% for local telephone service and 2.8% for long distance. “For the second year in a row, complaints declined somewhat”,… Continue Reading

Corus Entertainment launches Disney Junior, Disney XD

TORONTO – Disney Junior and Disney XD will arrive in over eight million households this week through distribution partners across English Canada. Corus Entertainment said Tuesday that the channels are available now through Bell Fibe TV, Bell Satellite TV, Bell FibreOp TV, MTS, Rogers, Shaw, Shaw Direct, Telus and various CCSA members.  Cogeco Cable Canada and Eastlink will offer the channels starting Wednesday, and SaskTel customers will have access to the new services in the coming weeks. Hollywood Suite readies national free preview

TORONTO – Hollywood Suite tis gearing up for a national free preview of its four HDTV movie channels, from December 8 through to January 12.
