Perth County getting $2.2M for high-speed internet

PERTH COUNTY — The federal and Ontario governments announced today the awarding of $2.2 million to bring high-speed internet to Perth County.

The money will go to connect 471 families, farms and businesses in the county, as the province races to connect the entire province by 2025, according to a press release.

The money is being invested in partnership with the Southwest Integrated Fibre Technology Inc., a nonprofit corporation that is being vested with more than $255 million to bring connectivity to more than 63,000 homes and businesses in southwestern Ontario by the end of the year.

“Together with the governments of Ontario and Canada, SWIFT continues to make strong progress in the expansion of high-speed broadband infrastructure across Southwestern Ontario and today’s announcement builds on our program’s commitment to drive greater connectivity throughout the region as we mark the completion of two additional high-speed fibre-optic projects in Perth County,” SWIFT board chair Gary McNamara said in the release.
