OAKVILLE – Pelmorex welcomed the honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour, to its new Oakville building on Wednesday.
Minister Blackburn, who is also Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Ontario is currently on a national tour of five city centres to promote and recognize organizations that are committed to fair, inclusive and racism-free workplaces.
As part of his campaign, he toured The Weather Network/Metéomédia owner’s broadcast centre, met with employees and commended Pelmorex for its dedication to employment equity.
"This week I’m meeting with employers, employees and businesses across Canada to engage in an open dialogue about best practices that will enable us to remove discrimination in the workplace," said Minister Blackburn.
"At Pelmorex, we embrace employment equity as an integral component of our corporate philosophy. Our goal is to represent the community we serve and provide a positive work environment in which everyone is treated responsibly and equitably", said Pierre Morrissette, president and CEO of Pelmorex.
Among numerous awards and recognition for excellence in the area of employment equity, Pelmorex was profiled in a chapter of the recently released 2005 Employment Equity Annual Report from Human Resources and Social Development of Canada (HRSDC) as an employer ‘who has demonstrated exemplary commitment to the principles and goals of employment equity.’
And twice within the past four years, Pelmorex earned four A’s – the highest rating – in the HRSDC Annual Report for each of the four designated groups (women, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities).
