GATINEAU – The CRTC said Tuesday it will publicly disclose the aggregate financial data of large broadcast distribution undertakings (cable and satellite companies) and large conventional television and radio broadcasters.

HALIFAX – Residents and businesses in Port Hawkesbury can now get their phone service from cable company EastLink, if they wish.
The company invested over $1.5 million to upgrade its network in the community at the southern end of Cape Breton Island, which included the construction of a headend facility that will serve as a network transmission point and technical office for the area. Port Hawkesbury has about 4,000 residents.

TORONTO – In seven years, newcomers to the wireless game in Canada will have about 8.2 million Canadian wireless subscribers (about 24% of the market), says a new report published Tuesday by Toronto’s Convergence Consulting Group.
And just about all of those subs will be tied to three big new wireless players, Globalive, Shaw Communications and Videotron.
At the end of 2015, those three companies “will each have a 7% share,” says the report.

TORONTO – While Bell TV announced on the weekend it has added TSN2 to its channel roster, watch for more pressure to come on a couple of other Canadian carriers from their local football fans later this week.
Bell TV (formerly ExpressVu) is the first of the “big four” carriers (Shaw/Star Choice, Rogers and Videotron being the others) to begin carrying TSN’s secondary channel. CLINTON, ON – EastLink, the fifth-largest Canadian cable company, has agreed to purchase Southwestern Ontario cable operator Bluewater TV Cable/Ex-Cen Cablevision from the Stinson family, Cartt.ca has learned.
The purchase price is not known.
The company serves about 7,000 total customers along the southeastern shores of Lake Huron and is based in Clinton, about 100 kms northwest of Kitchener.
Bluewater has been one of the more progressive small operators in the country (actually, most of the independent operators still competing are pretty progressive) and offers digital cable, HDTV, phone, high speed Internet, and video on demand.
