MONTREAL — Bell Media’s Noovo announced today veteran journalist Marie-Christine Bergeron (above) is joining the Noovo Info team as anchor for the news program Le fil 17 (The Wire 17), starting August 29.
Other members of Noovo’s news anchor team include Michel Bherer, Lisa-Marie Blais and Meeker Guerrier.
Bergeron’s appointment follows the impending departure of Le fil 17 host Noémi Mercier, who has helmed the weekday 5 p.m. news show since its launch in March 2021.
“It’s an immense privilege to have been chosen as anchor to lead Le fil 17,” said Bergeron, in an English translation of a Bell Media press release. “I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to return to my roots. Daily news is what thrills me. I can’t wait to rediscover this privileged contact with the Noovo public and to meet them in the context of an information program led by a professional, young and dynamic team.”

Originally from Lac-St-Jean, Quebec, Bergeron began her career in 1995 at Alma community television, then at CIBL community radio in 1998, before being hired by TVA as a journalist in Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke in 2000, according to the press release.
In 2005, she moved to Montreal and became a newsreader at TVA’s LCN (Le Canal Nouvelles). While at LCN, Bergeron alternated between live reporting in the field and reading newscasts.
“In 2012, she covered student protests and became a newsreader on the show Salut Bonjour. Passionate about investigative journalism, police affairs and human stories, she was appointed to the helm of the show J.E. in August 2018,” the English translation reads.
At the beginning of 2021, she took a break from working at TVA to set up new projects and spend time with her two children.
Taking on the hosting duties of Noovo’s Le fil 17 in August will mark Bergeron’s return to television.
