Lite Access provides update on several fibre network projects

VANCOUVER — Lite Access Technologies Inc., a company that specializes in advanced installation methods including the use of micro/narrow trenching technologies to deploy fibre-optic networks, today provided an update on its Canadian business activities.

Lite Access announced it has started construction on the first phase of the City of Brooks, Alberta’s Next Generation Broadband Network. Earlier this year, Lite Access was awarded the contract to install Brooks’ new fibre infrastructure, as Cartt.ca reported here.

“Phase 1 of the project, valued at approximately $13.6 million, is focused on the installation of the backbone network and once completed, Phase 2 will immediately follow which will provide individual connections to residents as well as businesses with construction expected to be completed by December 2023,” reads today’s press release from Lite Access.

“As construction takes place, additional opportunities will arise whereby individual connections will become part of the overall construction,” the release adds.

Lite Access also announced it has been involved in numerous network upgrades for unnamed major service providers within the Kootenay Region of British Columbia.

“Spanning from Grand Forks, B.C., to the B.C./Alberta border, Lite Access’ aerial crews have been working diligently to perform network upgrades of existing communications facilities as well as completing new installations throughout the region,” the release says.

In addition, Lite Access says it will soon begin installing aerial fibre cables for a major ski hill located in the East Kootenays. “The project involves the installation of a fibre cable along the chairlift and will commence within the next few weeks,” says the release, which adds the project’s total approximate value to date is $150,000, with additional work to follow.

In B.C.’s Lower Mainland, Lite Access “is currently engaged in works at various municipalities,” the release says.

“Working directly with cities that have approved and have requested narrow trenching as the preferred installation method, Lite Access is perfectly positioned to offer its proven installation methodology for fibre optic installations and expects similar and additional projects in the near future.”

Also in the Lower Mainland area, Lite Access “was awarded a fibre build contract valued at over $150,000 from a major Canadian carrier,” the press release says.

“Lite Access will be providing civils and construction services to install fibre in downtown Vancouver, B.C. using its advanced deployment and excavation methods. The project commences in May 2022.”

Finally, in Comox on Vancouver Island, Lite Access has completed the first phase of a fibre project and has been awarded the second phase of the project, valued at approximately $237,000, according to the press release. “Work is currently underway with completion expected by the end of May 2022,” the release says.
