OTTAWA – Wonder what Pastor John Hagee (see CTS story on this site) would say to the most recent Hot 89-9 FM promotion?

The Newcap radio station issued a release yesterday saying that it will fete Lynn and Alex, recent participants in the CBS/CTV reality show The Amazing Race, as they get married in Ottawa later this month. The wedding will air live on the radio station.

The duo plan to make an announcement on their upcoming nuptials today in New York. The Amazing Race’s most recent season came to an end last night in a two-hour special.

“The New Hot 89-9 Morning HOT Tub with Mauler, Rush, Laura and Josie revealed that Lynn and Alex, the gay couple from this season’s #1 reality show The Amazing Race 7, will fly to Ottawa for their June wedding ceremony and reception where even the smallest detail, from bachelor parties and flower selection to the wedding party and guest list, will be taken care of by The New Hot 89-9,” says the station’s release.

Lynn, 30 and Alex, 22 from West Hollywood, California, have been together for four years. Executive assistants by trade, they signed on to The Amazing Race 7 as a means to test the strength and longevity of their relationship.

“From speaking with them, it became obvious that their experience on The Amazing Race really solidified their commitment to each other and their desire to get married.” says Mauler, host of The New HOT 89-9 Morning Hot Tub. “Since current laws in California do not allow the union of gay couples, we invited them to take the plunge here and are ecstatic that they have agreed to come to Ottawa to share their once in a lifetime experience with us.”

The happy couple is set to arrive in Ottawa, Sunday May 29th. Over the course of that week, Lynn and Alex will take part in traditional wedding fan fair including a combined bachelor party, wedding rehearsal and a tour around Canada’s beautiful capital city. The live on-air wedding ceremony, attended by Lynn and Alex’s family and friends, will be held at the Ottawa Congress Centre on the morning of Wednesday June 1, and will be followed by a reception at Suite 34 that evening.

Newcap Broadcasting’s HOT 89-9 FM, has become known of late for its groundbreaking and unique promotions, contests and events and this is no different as this probably will be the first ‘live to air’ gay wedding in the history of radio.

“This wedding will blow everyone away,” says Rob Mise, operations manager, The New HOT 89-9 FM. “Although this event will be one of the most challenging we’ve put together in such a short time, we’re pulling out all the stops to make this a wedding Lynn and Alex, their family, and our listeners will never forget.”
