Facebook launches 2021 journalism accelerator programs in Canada

MENLO PARK, Calif. — The Facebook Journalism Project (FJP) today announced the launch of its reader revenue-focused accelerator programs in Canada and the United States for 2021, the fourth consecutive year the company has offered such programs to help publishers drive business results through digital transformation.

In 2021, Facebook is hosting two programs for North American news organizations (digital, print or broadcast) with digital reader revenue business models, and will give particular consideration to applications from organizations that are owned or led by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian or other people of colour, the company says.

One of the accelerator programs will focus on digital subscriptions and the other will focus on memberships. The deadline to apply for both is March 19, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The programs are expected to begin the week of April 12 and run through mid-July, followed by a six-month period to execute specific grant-funded initiatives.

Facebook will host a webinar on Wednesday, March 10 to provide more information on the application process. (Click here to sign up for the webinar.)
