OTTAWA – Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) and the Information Communications Technology Council (ICTC) have announced a new alliance with a mandate to further women’s leadership in the digital economy.
With this collaboration, CWC will move from its Toronto office to ICTC’s office in Ottawa. The formal announcement will be made by Namir Anani, president and CEO of ICTC and Janice McDonald, chair of CWC at the CWC Awards Gala in Ottawa this evening.
The two associations will work together with government and companies to develop strategies and programs to increase women's participation in the ICT workforce. Women make up just 25% of Canada’s ICT industry, with 197,000 positions, according to ICTC labour market research, highlighting an opportunity to develop a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
“CWC has a longstanding history of grassroots engagement and development of women in careers in communications, media and technology,” says Joanne Stanley, new executive director of CWC. “With ICTC as a partner, we hope to increase the leadership role of women driving innovation and smart growth in Canada.”
“The technology sector will benefit from initiatives to boost all under-represented groups’ participation in the ICT workforce,” says Namir Anani, president and CEO of ICTC. “The benefits of full participation by women in each facet of the ICT workforce are clear, and we look forward to working with an organization as effective at furthering this goal as CWC.”
A not-for-profit sector council, the ICTC is geared towards the creation of a prepared, diverse and highly educated Canadian ICT industry and workforce.
