MONTREAL – In a move that seems more like a shot at a competitor, Coegco Cable confirmed its “commitment to its customers' privacy” in a news release on Monday.
As Cartt.ca reported, Bell said last week that it is tracking its mobile customers’ web habits in order to deliver customized ads. Cogeco said that its confirmation comes “in light of a telecommunications company's recent decision to modify its privacy policy to allow for the collection of data on its users' TV and web habits and telephone pattern, a decision which has provoked recent outrage by Canadian consumers and consumer associations, among others.”
"Cogeco shares their concerns with regard to the usage of personal data”, said president and CEO Louise St-Pierre, in the release. “Cogeco does not publicly disclose or sell data on its customers' behavior patterns identified through their network usage. Cogeco furthermore does not sell personal information to third parties for sales or marketing purposes."
The release also contained links to Cogeco’s privacy commitment and policy on its corporate website.
