Bains to deliver closing keynote at virtual Telecom Summit

MARKHAM, Ont. — Navdeep Bains, Canada’s minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED), will deliver the closing keynote speech at the virtual Canadian Telecom Summit later this month, conference organizers announced today.

Winding up the three-day virtual conference, Bains is scheduled to speak on Thursday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

With the federal government’s 3500 MHz spectrum auction scheduled for next June and its 3800 MHz consultation underway, plus amendments to the Telecommunications Act and Radiocommunications Act possibly imminent (driven by the recommendations found in the Broadcast and Telecom Legislative Review panel report), Bains should have plenty to discuss. Proposed amendments to the Broadcasting Act were released today (driven by some of the BTLR report), but ISED has been silent on possible changes to the Telecom or Radiocom Acts.

Those who haven’t yet registered for the virtual Canadian Telecom Summit can still get a 70% discount off the regular rate until November 13.
