TV5 Québec Canada last week announced TV5’s programming slate for the fall, featuring several new original productions that explore “timely, bold and sometimes taboo subjects,” according to a press release.
“In March, TV5 embarked on a new direction with its new signature, TV5, une voix qui porte. The fall lineup fully embodies this vision: content that sparks conversations, challenges preconceived ideas and shines a light on Francophone voices that are too rarely heard. Each series contributes to telling the story of a vibrant, diverse and resolutely contemporary Francophonie. This is the Francophonie we want to showcase — with authenticity and boldness,” Jérôme Hellio, senior director of content at TV5, said in the press release.
In a new six-part series, Ça brasse en ville, former Montreal mayor Valérie Plante sets out to discover Dakar, Medellín, Porto, Kigali, Oslo and Buenos Aires, examining “how these cities are turning urban chaos into solutions driven by political decisions and citizen initiatives,” TV5’s press release says. Produced by TORQ Le Groupe and directed by Sabrina Hammoum and Pierre-Hugues Piché, Ça brasse en ville will premiere Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. on TV5.
Debuting Sept. 11 at 9 p.m., the new eight-part series Sexugénaires shares the intimate stories of eight people aged 65 and over, who speak openly about sex, love, desire, freedom and pleasure. “The documentary series shines a light on their pursuit of happiness and their desire to break free from the taboos and misconceptions that still surround sexuality in later life, offering a positive and contemporary vision of the golden years,” reads a synopsis of the series, produced by ROMÉO and directed by Vanessa Gauvin-Brodeur.
In Fracture américaine, journalist Simon Coutu examines the social, cultural and political tensions running through the United States. “From a Christian fundamentalist church to the largest event in the pornography industry, from a men’s rehabilitation camp to a group of ecofeminist women, he meets people with opposing beliefs in an effort to understand what is dividing America today,” reads a description. This four-part series, produced by Groupe Fair-Play and directed by Coutu and Matt Charland, will premiere on TV5 on Nov. 6 at 9 p.m.
Also new this fall, the 13-episode series Cuisiner le Nord follows Simon D’Amours as he welcomes renowned chefs, special guests and notable Yukon personalities to his lakeside cabin on Fox Lake. “Over meals prepared with ingredients from the land — including game, fish, wild berries and northern harvests — each encounter reveals an authentic cuisine deeply rooted in local traditions, the land and northern ways of life,” reads a synopsis. Produced by Simon D’Amours Productions and directed by Melanie Pelletier Poirier, Cuisiner le Nord will debut Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. on TV5 Unis.
September will also see the return of Serge à Paris, hosted by Serge Denoncourt, and the premiere of Partis camper, a new series hosted by outdoor enthusiast Alexis Pageau. The third season of Serge à Paris (13 episodes) will debut Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. on TV5, and Partis camper (13 episodes) will premiere Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m. on TV5 Unis.
