SaskTel on Monday announced the extension of its support measures to help customers evacuated this month due to the wildfires currently burning in northern parts of Saskatchewan.
“Through SaskTel, the Government of Saskatchewan is again helping to support people displaced by the wildfires currently burning in our province,” said Jeremy Harrison, provincial minister responsible for SaskTel, in a press release. “While some Saskatchewan families are forced to be away from their homes and communities, we are working to ensure they can stay connected without incurring extra costs by waiving data overage fees and crediting SaskTel maxTV and home internet charges.”
Effective July 14 and until July 31, SaskTel will automatically waive all wireless data overage charges for SaskTel customers living in communities evacuated because of the wildfires. SaskTel will also credit customers for their SaskTel Internet, maxTV Stream and home phone services. These supports will be available to residents while their community is evacuated, SaskTel said.
“Currently, the supports apply to those living in northwestern communities of Beauval, English River First Nation (La Plonge #192 and Patuanak), the Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge, Jans Bay, as well as Kinoosao in the northeastern part of the province. As the fire situation can change rapidly, the eligible communities may change over the coming days,” reads the telecom’s press release, which directs customers to www.sasktel.com/wildfires for the most up-to-date list of eligible communities.
SaskTel first began supporting customers impacted by the wildfires in late May/early June, and later extended its supports in mid-June.
