BRANDON, Man. – Westman Communications Group (WCG) announced yesterday its board of directors appointed Dr. Tim Berube (above) as the company’s new president and CEO, effective March 28, 2022.
Berube is taking the role over from Dave Baxter, who announced his retirement last September.
“The Board of Directors would like to thank outgoing President & CEO, Dave Baxter, for his leadership over the last 26 years,” said Jason Roblin, chair of the WCG board of directors, in a press release.
“In the rapidly changing telecommunications industry, he has led his team to provide all our communities and many new previously underserved communities with industry-leading Internet services. We wish him our very best on his well-deserved retirement.”
Berube brings experience in the areas of global leadership, executive management, governance, business development, operations, sales, marketing, engineering, project management, adjudication, and consulting to WCG.
His experience started with the Canadian Forces. He was later the vice-president and general manager of Arris International, a broadband communications firm in Tokyo, Japan and, upon returning to Canada, he founded Ben Berube Holdings International, an organization offering domestic and international consultancy services, according to the press release.
Berube has also served on the board of directors of the Northwest Local Health Integration Network under Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-term Care and is currently a commissioner with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
He has several degrees and diplomas including an electronic technologist diploma, a bachelor of engineering (electrical), a master of business administration (international), a master of science (leadership) and a doctor of philosophy (metaphysical sciences), the release says.
“I am honoured to become the next President & CEO of Westman Communications Group,” said Berube. “I look forward to serving our cooperative members and the communities in which WCG operates as we move forward with our vision of enabling communications services within our region.”
“WCG looks forward to welcoming Tim as our incoming President & CEO,” Roblin said. “Tim’s experience encompasses a range of positions within the public and private sectors coupled with various positions within the telecommunications industry, providing him with a well-rounded foundation to lead the strategic direction of our team,” he said.
“Tim’s leadership will continue to drive our focus on providing an exceptional member experience as we look forward to completing our planned network enhancements and community expansions.”
