Corus’s AM 730 Vancouver fills void left by departure of Bell Media’s TSN 1040
VANCOUVER — The BC Lions of the Canadian Football League announced Tuesday the club has signed a two-year broadcast partnership with Corus Entertainment, which will see Corus’s AM 730 as the new home for BC Lions radio broadcasts and Global BC providing game coverage on TV.
“Partnering with Corus Entertainment ensures our brand reach will continue to extend across the province on multiple platforms,” said BC Lions vice-president of business George Chayka, in a press release.
“With a network that includes the province’s most popular radio station in Global News Radio 980 CKNW and the ability to reach a large television audience on Global BC and BC1, we know our diehard fans will get their fix of Lions football all season long,” he added.
All 14 regular season BC Lions games will be broadcast on AM 730 Vancouver, beginning with the team’s August 6th season opener in Saskatchewan.
Returning to the booth are play-by-play broadcaster Bob “The Moj” Marjanovich and analyst Giulio Caravatta. (The two formerly covered BC Lions games for Bell Media’s TSN 1040, which earlier this year switched its format to standup comedy.)
AM 730 will also air one-hour pre- and post-game shows for all regular season games plus the playoffs. In addition, player and coach interviews will be featured on Global News Radio 980 CKNW.
Although Corus’s AM 730 Vancouver is considered the flagship station of the Lions Radio Network, B.C. Lions fans across the province can tune into games on other stations including Bell Media’s AM 1150 Kelowna and CFAX 1070 AM Victoria, and Stingray’s Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops.
