CHCH expands news coverage in response to COVID-19

HAMILTON – CHCH TV announced today it is expanding its news coverage during daytime hours to share up-to-date information with Canadians as the COVID-19 crisis continues.

As of yesterday, March 18, 2020, CHCH is now providing live, breaking news updates from its Hamilton studio every 30 minutes between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily. These updates are in addition to CHCH’s flagship live, local news programs, also produced daily: Morning Live, Inside the Story, and the Evening News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

CHCH is also broadcasting every live public address and press conference held by provincial and national leaders about COVID-19. These broadcasts, combined with flagship programming and the newly-expanded breaking news updates, makes for approximately seven hours per day of live, local news coverage for Canadians, says the company’s press release.

“As the country navigates an uncertain time, we understand that the work we do as a broadcaster, producer, and distributor of local news is an important service,” said Cal Millar, president and COO of CHCH owner Channel Zero. “As we all get used to the concept of social distancing, we will continue to remind ourselves of the core reason we are in this industry: to connect with the communities we serve and share their successes and challenges.”

Viewers can find all live, local news programming on CHCH TV via antenna, cable or satellite, or streamed live online at chch.com/live. Live public addresses and press conferences will also be broadcast on social media via Facebook Live.
