TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is investing $3.5 million to support the production of 16 projects as part of its Web Series Pilot Program.
The program, developed to meet the needs in the marketplace for linear content created for online consumption, helps to finance Canadian web series in their second or subsequent season. A five-member jury evaluated all the projects that were submitted for funding as part of this program.
CMF funding contributes to the return of nine web series in English and seven in French, says Monday’s announcement. One is from Manitoba, eight are from Ontario and seven are from Quebec. Eleven projects are in the drama genre, three are intended for children and youth and two are documentary web series.
