
MARKHAM, ON – Raj Shoan, Ontario Commissioner at the CRTC, will be the luncheon keynote speaker at Connection 2013, the Ontario Association of Broadcasters announced Friday.
Shoan was appointed to the Ontario Commissioner position in June and has broad public and private sector experience in communications law and regulatory affairs.

He previously served as the CBC/Radio Canada's director of regulatory affairs, where he led the Corp's participation in CRTC public hearings on various policy and regulatory matters. Prior to that Shoan held a similar role with Astral Media Radio from 2008 to 2011.
Shoan had previously worked with the CRTC between 2004 and 2008 as a senior policy analysts and legal counsel, and specialized in interpretation of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Acts. He provided policy and legal advice for the review or regulatory frameworks for broadcasting distribution and pay and specialty television channels. In 2007, Shoan served as senior advisor to the Commission Chair.
Shoan also worked as an analyst and lawyer at Industry Canada from 2002 to 2004, including as legal counsel for its telecommunications law group. He has also served on various industry committees and organizations, including the board of directors of FACTOR (Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) and the Governance Council for Pelmorex's national emergency alert system.
