MTS Allstream network restored, some problems remain in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream announced that its network was restored at 8:20 p.m. Central time after going down earlier in the day at about 2:30 p.m.

The telco said the outage was caused by a contractor fibre cut in the Winnipeg area that affected a portion of its national network. As a result, the local voice services in the areas of greater Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton were affected as was some long-distance voice traffic on MTS Allstream’s network across Canada.

MTS Allstream said in a statement that “these services have been restored and calls are now moving as normal across the network” although “some local network components remain impacted within the Winnipeg area.”

The Winnipeg problems are expected to be fixed this evening.
