TFO and TVO on the go


TORONTO – Mobisodes from TVOntario and its French language counterpart TFO are now available to Bell Mobility, Telus, Rogers Wireless, Aliant, Sasktel and MTS cellular customers.

Thanks to a partnership with Toronto’s QuickPlay Media, a company which is quickly ascending to the leadership spot among Canadian broadcasters wanting to go wireless, kids and parents will be able to stream or download an array of kids content from TVO/TFO anytime, anywhere on their mobile phones.

The partnership provides French-speaking teens, traditionally underserved in the mobile market, the opportunity to view mobisodes of TFO’s award-winning youth magazine show, Volt, the first French-language series to be offered in Canada by mobile phone.

Content from TVO will come from its popular TVOKids block, and other content. (Mobisodes, for the uninitiated, are episodes of certain shows – or even original content – truncated to a few minutes and are made for quick downloading and viewing.)

"With our already strong online presence, this is a natural transition for TVO and TFO," said TVOntario CEO Lisa de Wilde, who recently released a new strategic vision for the public broadcaster, which she discussed with Cartt.ca here.

"We’re offering new ways to keep young people engaged in learning with fun, educational content, and at the same time beginning to explore new revenue opportunities to support our operations," said de Wilde in the press release.

The TVO and TFO content is made available to all video phone enabled handsets across the Canadian carriers through the content management system at QuickPlay Media. New content will appear weekly from each of the networks.

"At QuickPlay Media, we are continuously securing new content from a variety of outlets worldwide, bringing both the best content and entertaining clips to the Canadian carriers," notes Raja Khanna, chief creative officer and co-founder QuickPlay Media.

The agreement comes on the heels of the announcement of TVOntario’s renewed mandate to explore and exploit the blossoming cross-platform opportunities that new technologies offer, and to increase self-sufficiency through new revenue streams.
