Musicrypt gains patent for BRM

TORONTO – U.S. patent number 7,003,670 now belongs to Musicrypt, the Canadian secure digital media distribution company.

The patent relates to Musicrypt’s Biometric Rights Management system (BRM) – a part of the company’s Digital Media Distribution System – which is an innovative use of biometric security measures to implement digital rights management in the secure online distribution of music and other digital media from record companies to broadcasters. The BRM U.S. patent will be in force until 2023.

The BRM portion of the system learns the users keystroke rhythm when they are at their computer, making it more difficult to tamper with the digital media files shipped and controlled in a radio station using DMDS.

“The receipt of our second patent grant is confirmation of the unique, industry-leading technology we have developed and are providing to our customers,” said John Heaven, president and CEO of Musicrypt. ”The need for verification of the identities of users accessing valuable media online continues to grow in our ever-more security conscious world. The utilization of biometrics provides a secure and user-friendly way to provide this extra level of assurance in our Digital Media Distribution System.”

A patent application for BRM is pending in Canada.
