TORONTO – In what would qualify as the worst-kept secret in radio, 98.1 CHFI made an official announcement today on the return of popular morning host Erin Davis.
She will begin re-hosting the 98.1 CHFI Morning Show, starting Tuesday September 6th 2005.
One of the most popular and respected broadcasters in Canada, Davis spent 15 years at CHFI before she was surprisingly fired in June 2003 and replaced with Jay (formerly Mad Dog) and Billie – who have since left the station.
Mea culpa, says management of the Rogers-owned station,
“At the time, we were looking to rejuvenate the radio station and we started with the Morning Show”, says Julie Adam, general manager/program director of CHFI. “We learned very quickly that we had underestimated the great bond that Erin has with our audience and it was a mistake to let her go. We are thrilled that Erin is returning to CHFI.”
There will be a co-host joining Erin in late October after he has finished his contractual obligations with another radio station, added the release.
This is another sort of non-secret, actually, since, as reported by www.cartt.ca in June, it’s pretty well known that Davis will be joined by Mike Cooper, once his contract with Standard Radio’s EZ Rock Toronto is finished. Davis and Cooper worked very well together during their pairing at EZ Rock in 2004-05 while former EZ host Christine Cardoso was on maternity leave.
During the pairing, EZ Rock rose to the top of the ratings heap in Toronto.
Cardoso has also since left EZ Rock.
On Monday August 8th at 8 a.m., CHFI is offering a sneak preview of the new show as Davis will be in for a Morning Show Conference with the CHFI listeners. She will take calls and questions from the audience.
