TORONTO – The board of directors of Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) announced today that Executive Director Sue Sheridan will be leaving the organization effective September 17, 2007 to join the Boys and Girls Club of Canada as the Director of Corporate Development.
Award-winning journalist, host, producer and WIFT-T board member Sadia Zaman will assume the role of Executive Director October 1, 2007.
“We are saddened by Sue’s departure, but wish her well in her new role,” said WIFT-T Board Chair Wendy MacKeigan, in a press release. "Sue has made a remarkable contribution to WIFT-T and the industry at large, and she will be sorely missed by the board, our partners and staff.”
“We congratulate Sadia on her new role and salute her proven track record and passion for advancing women in film and television,” added MacKeigan. “Her unique perspective and extensive industry experience will ensure a seamless transition.”
Sheridan joined WIFT-T in 2005 as Director of Programming Development and assumed the role of Executive Director in 2006. Her many accomplishments include the Business Management for Media Professionals partnerships with Humber College and Schulich School of Business, and taking a leadership role in co-ordinating the 2007 WIFT International Summit, which took place in Toronto in July.
Sadia Zaman is the former Director of In-House Production at VisionTV. She has worked for CBC Television and Radio as well as for TVOntario, and has been nominated for three Gemini Awards. She has won many national broadcasting awards, and in 2005, the Reelworld Film Festival honored her as a Trailblazer. Zaman is the Vice-Chair of Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) and was instrumental in the success of the recent WIFT International Summit in Toronto. She is often asked to sit on industry juries and speaks on panels across North America on a range of media-related issues.
