WOODSTOCK, NB – Xplornet Communications is opening new regional offices in Cornwall, ON in a move that will create more than 130 new full-time jobs.
The rural-focused Internet service provider said Wednesday that the offices will support all core company functions, including technical service, customer care, sales, network, and corporate support, and will be located in the revitalized Weave Shed Complex in Cornwall's Cotton Mills district, in close proximity to downtown and within walking distance of St. Lawrence College.
Cornwall, located approximately 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa and some 120 kilometres southwest of Montreal, was selected because of its strong local economy and the quality of its workforce, reads the company’s news release. In total, Xplornet pledged to invest approximately $40 million over the next five years in its new Cornwall operations.
“To continue our heritage of providing exceptional customer service, we choose to invest in rural communities. We think Cornwall and the surrounding areas in Eastern Ontario are representative of our customers and ultimately, of rural Canada itself”, said Xplornet CEO Allison Lenehan, in the release. “This expansion promises exciting opportunities for our company, and we envision an equally bright future for our operations in Cornwall."
Xplornet added that the new facility will support the anticipated needs of customers in Eastern Ontario and nationally as the company seeks to expand its network next year by extending its LTE Internet service combined with the launch of two new satellites offering faster Internet download speeds.
