WOODSTOCK, NB – Xplornet Communications has bought Calgary-based ISP Platinum Communications Corporation in a move that it says provides it with a business unit focused on commercial and enterprise opportunities.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  Platinum, which will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Xplornet, will form the basis of Xplornet Commercial Services, a new division that will help design and deliver solutions across rural industry sectors such as oil and gas, agriculture, forestry, mining, and telecommunications.

"We're delighted to welcome Platinum customers to the Xplornet family," said Xplornet president and CEO Allison Lenehan, in Tuesday’s news release.  "This acquisition increases our fixed wireless broadband footprint in Alberta and supports our company's mission to make affordable, fast and reliable broadband Internet services available to every rural Canadian."

Lenehan added that the acquisition also aligns well with Xplornet's roll-out of its LTE fixed wireless network in Alberta over the next year.
