REDMOND, WA – Microsoft’s Xbox One console will soon be able to help Canadians watch over-the-air television.
The company said Wednesday that it is partnering with Hauppauge on over-the-air TV tuners, due in part to consumer demand. Customers will also need an HDTV antenna and be within range of over-the-air broadcast stations.
Members of the Xbox One preview program in Canada and the U.S. can get over-the-air TV now by purchasing the Hauppauge WinTV-955Q for $79.99 plus an HDTV antenna. In the next few months, Xbox said that a $59.99 version of this tuner, to be known as the Hauppauge TV Tuner for Xbox One, will be available to everyone in Canada and the U.S.
With the supported TV tuner and antenna, OneGuide will provide a full-screen view of all TV listings, plus allow users to customize their viewing by marking channels as favorites. Xbox will also allow users to pause live TV for up to 30 minutes.
