TORONTO – Cindy Witten has been named as the new senior director of the Radio Network Talk department at CBC. The department produces all of the network programming on Radio One, including shows such as The Current, Q, As It Happens and The Debaters.
This marks a return to CBC for Witten where she began her career producing news and current affairs. She was previously director general of The National Film Board of Canada’s English Program where she oversaw the NFB’s work in documentary, animation and experimental film, as well as pioneering interactive productions. Before the NFB, Witten was a senior executive at Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting, most recently as VP content of History Television.
"Cindy is the perfect person to lead Canada's most loved radio programs into a future where the audience is as likely to connect with us on their smartphone as they are on a conventional radio”, said Chris Boyce, executive director of CBC Radio and Audio, in the announcement. “She has an impressive track record of creating innovative, high quality programming that connects with audiences."
Witten starts in her new role on September 22.
