TORONTO – Wind Mobile ended the first quarter with more than 415, 000 subscribers, a sharp increase over the same quarter last year, according to financial results released by its Egyptian backer Orascom.
Wind had 415,364 customers at March 31, 2012, a 53% jump over 271,659 in the first quarter of 2011. Orascom added that Wind’s average revenue per user (ARPU) remained “mostly stable” at $27.30.
“During 1Q 2012, Wind Mobile continued its ‘Value Plus’ strategy execution adding primarily postpaid subscribers while carefully managing prepaid economics for both voice and mobile broadband customers”, reads the report. "Wind Mobile continued to grow its distribution, ending the quarter with 481 total points of sale including 215 branded locations. The company continued expanding its network and improving its quality in existing networks.”
The report added that Wind is “assessing the 700 MHz spectrum auction rules and although clearly advantageous to wireless incumbents, there is a prime 2X5 MHz band available in certain regions that could be beneficial to Wind Mobile's long term strategy”.
