Wind awards $100K to charity as part of national contest

TORONTO – Wind Mobile has donated $100,000 to six Canadian charities as part of its national competition entitled ‘Best Conversation Ever’.

From January 24 to March 7, Canadian charities competed on-line for votes to split a $100,000 donation from Wind, and Canadians entered to compete for the conversation of their dreams by saying who they would most like to talk to in the world.

Taking home the top prize with more than 13,000 votes is Engineers without Borders Canada, who help to improve living conditions and provide clean water to communities in Africa. The five $10,000 runner-up donations were awarded to Rabbit Rescue Incorporated, St. Alban’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club, World University Service, Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, and Oxfam Canada.

"Having learned about the great work that this organization does, I was very excited to see Engineers Without Boarders take home the grand prize," said Wind chairman Anthony Lacavera, in a press release. "The Charity Challenge has been a highlight of Best Conversation Ever and we are overjoyed to share the first $100,000 with some very deserving charities. I can’t wait to see who will receive the five following $100,000 donations when we announce the individual conversation winners!"

The competition attracted over 2,500 submission and 50,000 votes. Once the winners are selected, Wind will donate $100,000 on behalf of each of the chosen personalities/celebrities for participating in the conversation, for a total of $500,000 donated to Canadian charities, in addition to the $100,000 in the charity challenge. The winners, who will be selected by a panel of Wind judges and industry leading bloggers, will be judged based on creativity and number of votes.
