WildBrain and Paramount announced Tuesday an expansion of their partnership to bring the hit animated series Sonic Prime to more of Nickelodeon’s global channels.
Under the expanded agreement, Paramount has extended its rights for 22 half-hour episodes of Sonic Prime and one hour-long special to include territories across the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and Latin America (LatAm). These new territories are in addition to those previously announced including the U.S., Australia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the U.K. and Ireland.
Nickelodeon will begin daily roll-out of the first 16 episodes of Sonic Prime in the new territories starting July 21, with the remaining episodes rolling out at a later date, WildBrain said in a press release.
In APAC, the new territories where Nickelodeon will air Sonic Prime include New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia and the Philippines. In EMEA, new territories include Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, France, Monaco, Israel, Turkey, Central and Eastern Europe, Baltics, Russia, Benelux, Greece and Sub-Saharan Africa. In LatAm, the series will be launching on Nickelodeon in Brazil, Mexico, Central America and South America.
Co-produced by SEGA and WildBrain, Sonic Prime was animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, with SEGA and WildBrain jointly participating across production, distribution and licensing, according to WildBrain’s press release. WildBrain serves as global distributor for the series.
“This expanded partnership with Paramount underscores the love that fans have for Sonic around the world. Sonic Prime delivers action-packed adventures to audiences, and we’re thrilled to bring the series to even more viewers across new territories on Nickelodeon,” Katie Wilson, vice president of global sales and acquisitions at WildBrain, said in the release.
“Sonic Prime has been delighting fans around the world since its debut,” said Ivo Gerscovich, chief business and brand officer of Sonic and head of SEGA Brands. “By bringing this engaging series to a global audience, we’ve created opportunities for both longtime fans and new viewers to immerse themselves in its dynamic storytelling and vibrant world.”
WildBrain’s announcement of its expanded partnership with Paramount comes as Corus says it will no longer operate the Nickelodeon channel in Canada as of Sept.1, as it prepares to pull the plug on some of its children’s services this fall.
