TORONTO – WildBrain announced Tuesday new content deals with Amazon that will see several series from the Canadian kids’ and family entertainment company’s catalogue offered on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany and on Amazon Kids+ in the United States.
The deals collectively comprise more than 850 episodes of TV shows, plus movies and specials, according to a WildBrain press release.
“The global demand for WildBrain’s deep library of content remains strong across all kids’ and family demographics, from preschool to kids to teens,” Caroline Tyre, vice-president of global sales and rights strategy at WildBrain, said in the release. “We’re pleased that Amazon’s SVOD services look to WildBrain for top, recognizable brands, as we continue to build on our longstanding relationship, delivering more compelling characters and entertaining storylines for their audiences around the world to enjoy.”
The deal with Prime Video in Canada, Australia and New Zealand saw those services launch almost 500 episodes from WildBrain’s Degrassi library on July 18. This brings the most Degrassi content ever available on one service to Amazon’s platform, according to the press release. The content includes all 14 seasons of Degrassi: The Next Generation, plus The Kids of Degrassi Street season one, Degrassi Junior High seasons one to three, Degrassi High seasons one and two, Degrassi Talks season one, Degrassi Unscripted season one, and the 90-minute TV movie Degrassi High: School’s Out.
WildBrain’s deal with Prime Video in Germany encompasses 218 episodes, including 90 episodes of WildBrain’s 2017 Teletubbies series, 52 episodes of the animated comedy Dorg Van Dango from Cartoon Saloon, and season one of the live-action family drama Ruby and the Well produced by Shaftesbury. The German deal also includes seasons 14 and 15 of WildBrain and Mattel’s CG-animated Fireman Sam series, as well as three 60-minute Fireman Sam specials, including The Great Fire of Pontypandy, Set for Action! and Norman Price and the Mystery in the Sky.
Amazon Kids+ in the U.S. has acquired 132 episodes of WildBrain content, including seasons one and two of WildBrain’s original animated series Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City, seasons four and five of WildBrain and Mattel’s 2D-animated Polly Pocket series, and the 66-minute extended special Polly Pocket – Sparkle Cove. Also included in the deal are two movies from WildBrain’s library – the 3D-animated Ghost Patrol produced by Eh-Okay Entertainment and the live-action film The Kid Who Only Hit Homers from MiMO Studios.
