WFN website goes pink in fight to reel in breast cancer

DENVER and TORONTO – World Fishing Network is partnering with Casting for Recovery in their mission to improve the quality of life for breast cancer survivors.

WFN is helping to generate awareness to the connection between fishing and breast cancer therapy to its audience of 46 million anglers throughout North America by turning its website pink for the week of Oct. 15 – 21. By promoting the mission of Casting for Recovery, WFN is highlighting the fact that the fishing community is actively engaged in supporting breast cancer survivors after diagnosis and treatment.

"October is designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and WFN is proud to partner with Casting for Recovery and aid in their mission to provide an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by this disease to gather in a natural setting and learn the sport of fly fishing at no cost to them," said Pam Stinson, Senior Director of Marketing for WFN.  "We encourage our viewers to visit Casting for Recovery online, watch their videos and consider donating to this worthwhile cause not only during the month of October, but throughout the entire year."

Casting for Recovery was founded in 1996 in Manchester, Vermont by a breast cancer reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Benita Walton, and a professional fly fisher, Gwenn Perkins.  The program grants breast cancer survivors the opportunity to experience something new and challenging while enjoying beautiful surroundings within an intimate, safe and nurturing structure. Founded on the principles that the natural world is a healing force, Casting for Recovery has received endorsements from medical and psychosocial experts for its innovative healing program model.

Women at any age and stage of treatment and recovery from breast cancer are eligible to benefit from the Casting for Recovery experience in not only the United States and Canada, but the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand as well. Weekend retreats, which promote healing for women at no expense to them, incorporate counseling, educational services and the opportunity to meet new friends while learning about fly fishing. Participants are provided with an experience that promotes coping and problem-solving skills while gaining self-esteem by learning news skills as a commitment to the future.
