WFN to be home of Canadian Fishing Tour

TORONTO – The World Fishing Network announced a new television partnership with the CRK Canadian Fishing Tour.

WFN is now the exclusive home of the CFT in Canada, with coverage of the CFT Super Series events airing on the all-fishing network, owned by Insight Sports. The CFT will debut weekly on WFN Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET during the season, which begins June 24, 2006. WFN also announced today it will produce a season-opening preview show (air dates to be announced).

The CFT is Canada’s richest professional fishing circuit and has announced that the 2006 season will feature guaranteed prize money of up to $1 million for all CFT events. The guaranteed payout is the largest in Canadian history and a first for Canadian professional fishing.

In a major victory for fans of competitive fishing, WFN will oversee all television production of CFT events, enhancing production values.

“We’re ecstatic that WFN is on board to help us take Canadian competitive fishing to the next level,” says Dan Carraro, founder, CFT. “The production expertise and enhanced exposure WFN brings to the table is an unprecedented victory for fans of this great sport in Canada.”

“We plan on bringing viewers closer to the drama and excitement of the sport – so Canadian viewers, like our American counterparts, can enjoy the sport of competitive fishing from the comfort of their living room," said Corey Russell, senior director, programming and production, WFN.

Up to 150 professional anglers compete in every Canadian Fishing Tour Super Series event, including national personalities Bob Izumi and Dave Mercer, as well as top Canadian pros such as Jim Estabrooks, Al Patton and Dave Chong.
