BRANDON, Man. — Co-operative Westman Communications Group announced last week it has expanded its TV/ISP/telecom services to 44 communities throughout Manitoba with the recent addition of Treherne (pictured), where residents and businesses are now connected to fibre and have access to Westman’s most-advanced high-speed Internet, digital HD TV and phone services.
“As a local, Manitoba co-operative, we are proud to be able to connect underserved communities to advanced communication options, including high speed Internet,” said Dave Baxter, president and CEO of Westman, in a press release.
At the end of 2019, Westman began fibre-connecting underserved communities, with Inglis, Manitoba, being the first new community in more than 15 years to have access to Westman’s services. Since Inglis, Westman has connected nine additional communities, including Minto, Rapid City, Oak River, Haywood, St. Claude, Elm Creek, Wawanesa, Rathwell and Treherne.
“Our services have been well-received, giving more choices for entertainment and savings. With more wireless-enabled devices in homes competing for bandwidth, our no data cap plans are a great choice for members. As well, having access to faster download speeds creates opportunities for businesses and other entrepreneurs,” said Baxter.
In addition to providing Internet, digital TV and phone services, the customer-owned Westman co-operative owns and operates local radio stations Q Country 91.5 FM and 94.7 Star FM, which broadcast throughout western Manitoba.
