OAKVILLE, Ont. – Among Canadian TV web brands, The Weather Network sets the pace.
The company set a new record for unique viewers in December as 6.86 million Canadians visited the cable channel’s web site, a 48% increase over the previous month. (A lot of December snow in the Greater Toronto Area and difficult storms in Vancouver probably helped too…)
December’s record setting visits represent an increase of 25% over the same month in 2007.
The data, from ComScore Media Metrix’s news and information category, shows that theweathernetwork.com was well in front of second place cbc.ca (4.46 million) and CanWest Global’s canada.com (4.36 million). Quebecor’s canoe.ca (3.94 million) and ctv.ca (3.24 million) round out the top five.
The Weather Network’s French site, meteomedia.com, was 10th on the list at 1.78 million unique visitors.
“It’s rewarding for us to see that so many Canadians consulted our site during December, which is traditionally such a busy month for many people,” said Kyle Whatley director of interactive services at The Weather Network, in a press release.
In addition to offering detailed forecasts for over 5,100 Canadian, American and international cities, the web site allows users to consult weather, satellite and radar maps, as well as, road conditions. The site also offers several customized email and desktop services.
