Waterloo’s LiveHive and Turner Sports bring Nano Gaming to MLB

WATERLOO, Ont. – Interactive TV provider LiveHive Systems has signed an agreement with Turner Sports to add an interactive component to the TBS Hot Corner on MLB.com. The partnership is for TBS’ ongoing exclusive coverage of the MLB Division Series and National League Championship Series.

“Live Game Trivia”, which is sponsored by the U.S. fast-food chain Sonic, is a first for baseball.

This means that people who watch the MLB Postseason on TBS can now be interactive viewers. It began with the October 3rd tripleheader telecast on TBS, where TV viewers can play along with Live Game Trivia, a solution powered by LiveHive’s NanoGaming technology.

“Baseball fans are stats fanatics and Live Game Trivia gives them complementary content to interact while they watch the game,” said Dave Bullock, president and co-founder of LiveHive Systems. “We’re really excited about how this and our other NanoGaming Powered offerings are making television a lean-forward experience.”

To play along on TBS Hot Corner on MLB.com, viewers can go to livegametrivia.nanogaming.com. After logging in, they can answer trivia questions about baseball in general and even about the game they are watching as it happens. Players climb a leaderboard and see how they are doing in real-time. For example, a viewer can answer the following questions:

• How many pickoff attempts did Francis make last inning with Howard on first base?
• Who committed an error in the first inning?
• What year did Fenway Park open?

‘Live Game Trivia’ is being featured on up to 23 playoff games, beginning with the first round League Division Series which involved the following teams: Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels, Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians, and Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks. It will continue to be featured throughout the National League Championship Series featuring the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks.

NanoGaming provides value for players, broadcasters, and advertisers. It provides non-stop, real-time action for players, making the sporting event even more interesting. It helps broadcasters increase their dedicated viewership, convert passive viewers into active participants, and drive fans to their website during a broadcast. NanoGaming also provides the ideal platform for advertisers who seek to leverage new interactive media channels.

NanoGaming made its debut for NASCAR viewers on July 29th with ‘Live Race Trivia’ on NASCAR.com for 17 televised races of the NASCAR racing season. On September 14th, a second interactive game ‘Race for the Coke’ was featured on NASCAR.com in association with the telecasts. Among other partnerships, LiveHive Systems has also introduced NanoGaming to reality TV with the Global Television Network in Canada for the popular TV show Big Brother 8.
