MISSISSAUGA – VOIP provider Vonage today launched the V-Phone, a small, portable and multifunctional USB device that lets customers travel with their phone number and enjoy inbound and outbound calling no matter where in the world they are.
The V-Phone is small enough to carry on a keychain, a pocket or the palm of your hand and is equipped with the same features and functionality as Vonage’s home phone service. Once plugged into a laptop, for example, it turns the computer into a VOIP phone.
"With V-Phone, you can make and receive North American calls using your regular home or business number, no matter where in the world you travel – all for the price of a local call and with no cell phone roaming charges," said Bill Rainey, president of Vonage Canada.
Unlike peer to peer services like Skype, the Vonage V-Phone turns any PC or laptop into a fully functional telephone. It’s no bigger than a typical USB flash key and can be used anywhere there’s a high-speed connection. The V-Phone even works in Wi-Fi hotspots, enabling people to surf the Internet, check their emails, and talk on the phone all at the same time.
The V-Phone also stores people’s phone call history and complete phone contact lists, no matter which PC they use for calling. It also serves as a fully-functioning memory stick, so people can store work documents, travel photos, travel itineraries and anything else. Parents of computer-savvy teenagers can give their kids the V-Phone as a more affordable way to communicate, and university students who move frequently can benefit from the V-Phone’s unparalleled portability, says the company.
It works with any of Vonage Canada’s full feature, flat-rate service plans and retails for $49.99.
