Vonage, exclusively

MISSISSAUGA – VOIP provider Vonage Canada is the exclusive provider of telephone services for Hyde Park, a high-tech retirement community near Ottawa, the company announced Wednesday.

Hyde Park is a senior’s only residential community that consists of approximately 300 “Vonage-enabled” bungalows, apartments and suites, says the company’s release.

“Everyone, from retirees to college kids, is looking for a simple alternative to high-priced local phone service providers,” said Bill Rainey, president, Vonage Canada, in the release. “Anyone, regardless of their comfort level with new technologies, can take advantage of the Internet as a communication tool without the need for new phones or handheld devices. Even my grandmother could use it.”

One of the unique features that have some appeal to Hyde Park residents is the portability of Vonage’s service. Snowbirds and on-the-go seniors can simply bring their Vonage adapter to a vacation or winter home and plug it into any high-speed Internet connection and receive calls as if they are at home.

“We introduced the concept of a Smart Community to build in specific, self-empowering technologies and services with features that allow people to stay in one place as they age and as their needs change," explains Steve Hyde, president, Courtyard Developments, owners of Hyde Park. “We selected Vonage to provide Internet phone service because of its simplicity and flat rate calling plans, which helps provide a means of budget control, ideal for seniors.”

Vonage also has special partnerships with senior’s organizations such as CARP, Canada’s Association for the Fifty-Plus, whose members receive a special offer for signing up with Vonage.
